12/19/2009 - Columbus, OH (Sportsbook Betting Lines) - The 18th-ranked Ohio State Buckeyes resume their three-game homestand today, as they host the Delaware State Hornets in a non-conference bout at Value City Arena.
The Buckeyes jump started their homestand with yet another convincing victory, as they trounced Presbyterian, 78-48, on Wednesday. OSU has won its seven home games by an average of 35 ppg and has scored in triple digits in three of those victories. Overall, the Buckeyes are now 8-2 and they will wrap up their homestand against Cleveland State on Tuesday.
As for the Hornets, they are in the midst of a five-game road trip that has started with three consecutive losses. The most recent of the those setbacks came a week ago, an embarrassing 76-34 defeat at Arizona State. DSU is now 4-4 overall and will end its homestand against UCLA on December 27th.
DSU had dropped both prior encounters with OSU on the hardwood and that includes a 70-42 setback in a meeting last season.
The Hornets come into the game averaging 56.8 ppg behind a lackluster 39.3 percent shooting from the field. Marcus Neal is the team's leading scorer at 14.0 ppg and he is an effective three-point shooter, hitting on 44.8 percent from downtown. Frisco Sandidge chips in with 12.4 ppg and he is the team's top rebounder, grabbing 6.4 rpg. The duo combined for 23 of the team's mere 34 points in a lopsided loss to Arizona State last weekend. The Hornets shot an abysmal 25.0 percent from the floor in the game and were simply dominated all around.
The Buckeyes dropped in 53.7 percent of their attempts from the floor and held Presbyterian to a dismal 33.3 percent shooting effort, as they coasted to victory on Wednesday. David Lighty headed the charge with 20 points and six boards for OSU, while Jon Diebler posted 12 points. It was the team's first home game without star Evan Turner, who broke two bones in his lower back on December 5th. Turner was averaging 18.5 ppg, 11.4 rpg and 5.9 apg prior to the injury and is expected to be out a few more weeks. Diebler has helped pick up the slack and he averages 15.6 ppg on the strength of 49.4 percent shooting from long range. Lighty adds 13.1 ppg and 5.5 rpg, while William Buford contributes 12.0 ppg and 3.4 apg. Jeremie Simmons is another option with 10.5 ppg off the bench for OSU, which is averaging a hardy 84.7 ppg on the season.

The AFC South and the NFC East are the favorite divisions to have the next Super Bowl champ among them in the NFL betting odds. But more down to the point, these football odds are in favor of the Indianapolis Colts, by far the strongest team in the AFC South, and the Dallas Cowboys of the NFC East.
Most sports fans would agree that these two teams top the list to win it all before the season even begins. In the BetUS Sportsbook football futures, the Colts are +800 in the odds to win the Super Bowl, while the Cowboys are sitting at +1000 and the Super Bowl XLIV champions New Orleans Saints at +900. In the AFC South, the Colts won the division for five straight years after the 2002 realignment, before the Tennessee Titans won it in 2008. But the Colts came back strong in 2009 to win the division again en route to the Super Bowl. The Cowboys are the favorite to win the NFC East, as well as to advance far into the post season. The Cowboys won the division last season before their horrendous loss in the NFC Divisional playoff to Brett Favre and the Minnesota Vikings. But the ‘Boys will take that loss humbly and be ready for the playoffs this time around.
The NFC South is also very strong, at +600 in the NFL futures, considering that it is home to the defending Super Bowl champions. However, some predictions have the Atlanta Falcons with possibilities of claiming the divisional title this season in place of the Saints, as no team has won back-to-back division championships since the division realignment took place. Let’s not overlook the AFC North at +500. As TO goes to Cincinnati to join Chad OchoCinco and Adam “Pac-Man” Jones, this team looks to claim the division title again. And it is likely they will do so. The Bengals lost in the AFC Wild Card spot in a hard-fought battle against the New York Jets last season. Lest not forget the Pittsburgh Steelers, the XLII Super Bowl Champions… All these teams present interesting odds and matchups for the upcoming season, but the safest and surest bet seems to be with the Colts in the AFC South and the Cowboys in the NFC East.
