02/17/2010 - Berea, OH (Sportsbook Betting Lines) - The Cleveland Browns have released running back Jamal Lewis, who suffered a head injury in late November and may be headed for retirement.
Lewis, 30, suffered a reportedly serious concussion in a Week 12 loss to Cincinnati, and was placed on injured reserve December 2.
The running back had previously stated that the 2009 season would be his last, and looks to have played his final NFL snap.
"I enjoyed getting to know Jamal and having the opportunity to coach him last season," said Browns head coach Eric Mangini. "We want to thank him for his contributions to the Cleveland Browns and wish him nothing but the best moving forward. I'm sure he will be successful in whatever he decides to pursue."
Lewis is 21st on the NFL's all-time rushing list with 10,607 yards. In his 10th NFL season in 2009, Lewis ran for 500 yards in nine games.
The Tennessee product was in his third season with the Browns after a successful seven-year stint with Baltimore that saw Lewis join a rare class of NFL running back -- becoming one of six players to rush for 2,000 or more yards in a single season during the 2003 campaign. Lewis' 2,066 yards was second to only Eric Dickerson's league-record 2,105 yards in 1984.

Dallas Cowboys Super Bowl Odds
Will he or won't he? Now that the Dallas Cowboys have a new head coach in Wade Phillips, the big question will be: Does Terrell Owens stay with the team.
Jerry Jones continues to suggest that Terrell Owens will remain with the team.
"I've said that he's back, he's here, he's under contract," Jones said. "In the interviews I've just been through (to hire a new coach), it was very clear to me how highly he's thought of and how much of an impact he had on our offensive success."
Just to be sure though, Terrell Owens cleared out his locker and removed his name plate.
Terrell Owens was among the Cowboys most productive players this past season, catching 85 passes for 1,180 yards and a league-best 13 touchdowns.
But T.O. is due a $3 million roster bonus in June, then a $5 million salary this season. Cutting him before then would save a lot of money and headaches.
Aside from the questions surrounding Terrell Owens, the oddsmakers at MySportsbook.com have concerns over starting quarterback Tony Romo's state of mind and whether he will remain a starting quarterback. It is also not known how players will adjust to new head coach, Wade Phillips.
