10/15/2008 - Stillwater, OK (Sportsbook Betting Lines) - Coming off their biggest win of the 2008 season, the eighth-ranked Oklahoma State Cowboys return home to play host to the Baylor Bears in Big 12 action from Boone Pickens Stadium.
The Cowboys made a huge jump in the national polls following their 28-23 upset of then third-ranked Missouri in Columbia last weekend. With the victory, OSU moved to 6-0 for the first time since 1997 (just the second time in school history) and moved to 2-0 in league play, tied with Texas and Texas Tech atop the South Divisional standings.
The Bears knocked off Iowa State last weekend, 38-10, snapping a 13-game conference losing streak. With the win, Baylor moved to 3-3 on the year and 1-1 in conference play. Head coach Art Briles knows that the victory is a building block.
"We felt like all along we have a good football team. And maybe we are starting to show it a little bit. We feel like we have the potential to be a very, very good football team. And we are starting to climb up to that level."
Oklahoma State leads the all-time series with Baylor by a narrow 14-12 advantage. The Cowboys have won 11 of the 12 meetings since the inception of the Big 12 in 1996, with the lone loss coming in 2005 in Waco.
Freshman quarterback Robert Griffin was 21-of-24 passing for 278 yards with two touchdowns, both to Kendall Wright. Griffin ran for another score, as the Bears beat Iowa State this past weekend. Griffin has played more like a veteran under center this season, as he has completed over 61 percent of his passes, for 1,109 yards, with nine TDs and no interceptions. A dangerous duel threat, Griffin has also rushed for 421 yards on the year and is responsible for eight of the team's 15 rushing TDs.
When Griffin does let it go downfield, Wright is his top option, with 26 receptions, for 333 yards and three TDs.
The key to Baylor's success offensively has been balance, with the Bears averaging 206.2 yards per game rushing and 197.7 yards passing.
The Bears are allowing 134.7 yards rushing per outing and the rush defense will be put to the test against OSU this week. The pass defense has been generous at times as well (216.5 ypg) and will need to shore things up if Baylor is to contend with the explosive Cowboys.
Middle linebacker Joe Pawelek is the heart-and-soul of the defense, leading the team with 68 total tackles. He also has 2.5 TFLs, a pair of interceptions and a fumble recovery to his credit.
Baylor has shown the ability to make big plays, with 12 sacks and 13 takeaways in the first six games.
Oklahoma State once again got the job done on the offensive side of the ball, as they rolled up 402 yards of total offense on Missouri last weekend. The team was able to keep the Tigers at bay with 187 yards rushing, while adding 215 through the air.
Tailback Kendall Hunter did the lion's share of the work on the ground, amassing 154 yards and one TD on 24 carries. Quarterback Zac Robinson added his own rushing score in the first half, while throwing two TD passes in the second half.
On the season, Robinson has been outstanding, completing 71.1 percent of his passes, for 1,250 yards, with 12 TDs. His top target has been standout wide receiver Dez Bryant, who has 34 receptions, for 597 yards and nine TDs.
Hunter has been the central figure of a ground game that is churning out 293.8 yards per game. The talented tailback is averaging 143.7 yards per game, on nearly seven yards per carry (6.9). Of the 22 rushing TDs on the season for OSU, Hunter has reached the end zone nine times.
The OSU defense has not really found itself in many slugfests this season, but last week was the exception. The unit responded with three second half interceptions, leading to the rousing victory.
Getting after opposing quarterbacks is not a strength of this team, with OSU registering just six sacks in the first six games. The team has however, recorded 14 takeaways.
Leading the defense is junior linebacker Andre Sexton, who has done a little bit of everything, posting a team-high 49 tackles, with 3.0 TFLs, one sack, one interception, two forced fumbles and one fumble recovery.
Baylor is certainly heading in the right direction, but is running into a juggernaut in Oklahoma State this week. The Cowboys are clicking on all cylinders right now and are brimming with confidence. Head coach Mike Gundy is quick to harness that energy though.
"I think our players have handled themselves very well. I think they understand that you're only as good as your next game. Part of our job as coaches is to bring them back to earth."

It’s time to see how the biggest NFL free agent signings will perform for their news teams. Some will work out and could be the difference that makes a difference in the win column.
We look at the best off-season signings and if they should influence your NFL betting this season. Julius Peppers – Peppers was the biggest prize available on the 2010 NFL free agent market and the Chicago Bears opened the bank to bring his talents to the south side.
Peppers is explosive, he can get around blockers and cause quarterbacks to lose their minds. We all remember the classic Peppers game last year against the Vikings where he hounded Brett Favre into his worst game of the season. Peppers joining the Bears could be the reason Favre retired for good Tuesday morning. In addition to Peppers, the Bears added Chester Taylor to back up Matt Forte, Forte didn’t have the same intensity in 2009 compared to 2008 and bringing in Taylor will challenge Forte to bring it every game or he’ll risk losing carries to Taylor.
Betting on the Bears is a good option this season because of Julius Peppers and to a lesser extent Taylor. Antonio Bryant and Terrell Owens – The Cincinnati Bengals signed two former number one wide receivers to line up with Chad Ocho Cinco. Antonio Bryant had a huge season in 2008 catching 83 passes for over 1200 yards but regressed last season. Playing for the Tampa Bay Bucs last season was a large part of the regression, everyone was bad in TB last season.
Bryant should have a bounce back season if he can win the number two spot from Terrell Owens. If Bryant wins the number 2 WR spot, it will open up a completely new set of problems for the Bengals. If Owens is forced to the bench in favor of Bryant, his attitude will create trouble for Carson Palmer and head coach Marv Lewis. If Owens is the number two receiver, it means Bryant can’t live up to his past numbers and the Bengals are still limited in the passing game. NFL bettors should be wary of laying their money down on what could potentially be the biggest gong show in the league in 2010. 2010 football betting lines for this can be found at this top online sportsbook. Karlos Danby – The Miami Dolphins have a great running back tandem in Ricky Williams and Ronnie Brown, a good young QB in Chad Henne and now the Bill Parcells regime is building a solid defense.
NFL bettors should be wary of laying their money down on what could potentially be the biggest gong show in the league in 2010. Karlos Danby – The Miami Dolphins have a great running back tandem in Ricky Williams and Ronnie Brown, a good young QB in Chad Henne and now the Bill Parcells regime is building a solid defense. They signed away the Arizona Cardinals top linebacker Karlos Danby. In the past two seasons, Danby has totaled 228 tackles, 5 sacks, 3 interceptions and 3 forced fumbles. The Dolphins are the forgotten team of the AFC East with the second longest odds to win the division but with the addition of Karlos Danby and a trade for WR Brandon Marshall makes the Miami Dolphins legitimate contenders in the AFC East and in the NFL’s Eastern Conference.
The Dolphins will make NFL wagering fans a lot of money this season, get in early and enjoy the cash.
