Jamie McMurray surprise winner in bizarre Daytona 500

02/14/2010 - Daytona Beach, FL (Sportsbook Betting Lines) - More than six hours after the start of Sunday's Daytona 500, Jamie McMurray won NASCAR's biggest race of the year for the first time after dealing with lengthy delays for potholes on the track, surviving a crash-filled affair and then held off a hard-charging Dale Earnhardt Jr. on the final lap.

McMurray, who made his first start for Earnhardt-Ganassi Racing in the No.1 Chevrolet, led just two laps in the 200-lap race, which was the least amount by a Daytona 500 winner.

Kevin Harvick held the lead for the second and final restart of a green-white- checkered finish, but McMurray made a slingshot past Harvick to take the lead on the second to final lap. Earnhardt Jr. charged from 10th to second during the two-lap shootout, but McMurray held off Earnhardt Jr. by 0.12 seconds for his second win at Daytona and the fourth of his Sprint Cup Series career. He won the July 2007 race here.

McMurray became the ninth different winner in the last nine Daytona 500s, as well as 34th driver overall in the 52-year history of the event.

Greg Biffle finished third, followed by Clint Bowyer and David Reutimann.

The Daytona 500 was plagued with two delays lasting more than two and a half hours due to potholes that surfaced on the asphalt midway through the race.
