Miller found the first decent chance of the match for Rangers when he fired over the net from just outside the area, but the hosts nearly went behind when a header from Paul Hanlon needed to be cleared off the goal line by Sasa Papac.

The second half saw more chances created and the arrival of the game's opening goal, which occurred five minutes after the break.

A nice one-two between Whittaker and substitute Kyle Lafferty allowed Whittaker to take the return pass inside the area and fire into the upper corner of the net, putting his side in front.

Merouane Zemmama caused a nervous moment for Rangers goalkeeper Allan McGregor when his powerful effort was spilled by the keeper, but he recovered in time to prevent the ball from crossing the line.

Rangers then doubled its lead minutes later when Miller was brought down inside the penalty area by Souleymane Bamba, which allowed Boyd to step to the spot and drive a low shot underneath goalkeeper Graeme Smith.

The victory was topped off in stoppage time when a good ball from Kevin Thomson put Miller behind the defense and he beat Smith with a low shot.
