02/04/2010 - Tampa, FL (Sportsbook Betting Lines) - Steven Stamkos continues to impress in his sophomore campaign, scoring twice and adding an assist in Tampa Bay's 5-2 victory over the New York Islanders.
The 19-year-old was taken as the No. 1 selection in 2008 and has accumulated 31 goals and 29 assists through his first 56 games this season. Thirteen of those points (6 goals, 7 assists) have come over an eight-game scoring streak and have helped the Lightning post five wins in their last seven games.
Martin St. Louis, Vincent Lecavalier and Alex Tanguay each had a goal and an assist in Thursday's win to start a four-game homestand. Antero Nittymaki made 34 saves.
Matt Moulson and Jon Sim scored for New York, which equaled its worst losing streak of the season by dropping its sixth straight. The Islanders have failed to earn a single point during the stretch and have scored just eight goals in the slump.
Dwayne Roloson allowed four goals on 30 shots in the loss.
Stamkos' first goal came on the power-play off a one-timer that deflected in off Roloson's blocker for a 1-0 game at 14:15 of the first. Moulson countered with his 21st goal on the year just over a minute later.
Sim's chip-in from the left side of the crease 9:12 into the second gave the visitors a 2-1 edge, but the Bolts had an answer just 25 seconds later, as St. Louis cranked a shot just inside the near post from the low left circle.
Tanguay fed Lecavalier for a one-timer off an odd-man rush for a 3-2 lead less than a minute later.
Things stayed that way until Stamkos picked up the puck through the neutral zone skating down the right wing and fired from just above the circle, beating Roloson's glove for a two-goal cushion with 8:11 left in regulation.
After making 15 saves in the second period, Nittymaki was tested by only six shots over the final 20 minutes, and Tanguay's empty-netter inside the final minute sealed the outcome.
Game Notes

The AFC South and the NFC East are the favorite divisions to have the next Super Bowl champ among them in the NFL betting odds. But more down to the point, these football odds are in favor of the Indianapolis Colts, by far the strongest team in the AFC South, and the Dallas Cowboys of the NFC East.
Most sports fans would agree that these two teams top the list to win it all before the season even begins. In the BetUS Sportsbook football futures, the Colts are +800 in the odds to win the Super Bowl, while the Cowboys are sitting at +1000 and the Super Bowl XLIV champions New Orleans Saints at +900. In the AFC South, the Colts won the division for five straight years after the 2002 realignment, before the Tennessee Titans won it in 2008. But the Colts came back strong in 2009 to win the division again en route to the Super Bowl. The Cowboys are the favorite to win the NFC East, as well as to advance far into the post season. The Cowboys won the division last season before their horrendous loss in the NFC Divisional playoff to Brett Favre and the Minnesota Vikings. But the ‘Boys will take that loss humbly and be ready for the playoffs this time around.
The NFC South is also very strong, at +600 in the NFL futures, considering that it is home to the defending Super Bowl champions. However, some predictions have the Atlanta Falcons with possibilities of claiming the divisional title this season in place of the Saints, as no team has won back-to-back division championships since the division realignment took place. Let’s not overlook the AFC North at +500. As TO goes to Cincinnati to join Chad OchoCinco and Adam “Pac-Man” Jones, this team looks to claim the division title again. And it is likely they will do so. The Bengals lost in the AFC Wild Card spot in a hard-fought battle against the New York Jets last season. Lest not forget the Pittsburgh Steelers, the XLII Super Bowl Champions… All these teams present interesting odds and matchups for the upcoming season, but the safest and surest bet seems to be with the Colts in the AFC South and the Cowboys in the NFC East. MySportsbook.com Posts Heisman Trophy Odds
With 3,919 passing yards, 32 touchdowns and a mere seven interceptions last season, combined with a powerful South Bend Heisman legacy, odds makers at MySportsbook.com have given Notre Dame senior quarterback Brady Quinn the best Heisman Trophy odds at 5-2.
Quinn isn’t the only big man on campus this season. Oklahoma junior running back and 2004 Heisman runner-up Adrian Peterson, listed at 7-2, rushed for a combined 3,033 yards in his first two years as a college player and will give Quinn a run for his money.
This online sportsbook has also listed Troy Smith, Ohio State senior quarterback, as another strong favorite to win the 72nd Heisman Trophy. A 7-1 bet, Smith threw for 2,282 yards last season and also led the Buckeyes to a convincing 34-20 victory over Quinn and the Fighting Irish in last season’s Fiesta Bowl.
Current betting odds Heisman trophy are:
