Thrashers battle Canadiens seeking consecutive wins

10/30/2007 - (Sportsbook Betting Lines) - The Atlanta Thrashers will try for back-to-back wins for the first time this season when they battle the Montreal Canadiens tonight at the Bell Centre.

Atlanta dropped its first six games of the season, prompting an early coaching change. The club has since won three of five games since general manager Don Waddell replaced Bob Hartley on an interim basis, though it hasn't been able to string together consecutive victories.

The Thrashers are in the midst of a seven-game road trip and are 2-2-0 on the swing after defeating Chicago, 3-2, on Saturday. Slava Kozlov's pair of goals guided Atlanta to victory.

Ilya Kovalchuk tallied a goal and added a pair of assists for the Thrashers, while Johan Hedberg stopped 29 shots to net the win.

Kovalchuk leads Atlanta with 12 points on six goals and six assists.

Atlanta, which is 2-5 on the road this year, also will visit Ottawa and Tampa Bay on its swing.

Montreal, meanwhile, has countered a three-game losing streak with four straight victories. That includes a 4-3 shootout victory over Pittsburgh on Saturday.

Andrei Markov scored the lone goal of a lengthy shootout and also tallied in regulation for the Canadiens. After the first 16 players were unable to score in the extra session, Markov skated in, faked a shot and slid a backhander through the pads of Dany Sabourin to give the Canadiens the win.

Mathieu Dandenault and Michael Ryder added goals in regulation, while Carey Price made 20 saves for the Canadiens.

Montreal is 2-1-1 at home and kicks off a four-game stand at the Bell Centre tonight. The club will also get visits from Philadelphia, Toronto and Buffalo.

The Canadiens went 3-1 versus the Thrashers last season and have won nine of the last 13 meetings in the series. Montreal has also won seven of its last 10 as the host against Atlanta.
