Wild hope to stay perfect at home versus Penguins

Hockey Betting Lines

10/30/2007 - (Sportsbook Betting Lines) - The Minnesota Wild will aim to remain perfect at home tonight, when they welcome the Pittsburgh Penguins to the Xcel Energy Center.

The Wild are 4-0 as the host this season, beginning the 2007-08 campaign with three straight wins at Xcel Energy Center. The club also bested Colorado on October 21 at home, but that was the last time the Wild posted a victory.

After that win, Minnesota hit the road for a three-game trip through the Northwest Division and lost all three contests. That includes a 3-1 setback in Colorado in the trek's finale on Sunday.

Eric Belanger had the only goal for the Wild and Josh Harding stopped 27 shots in the loss.

Minnesota has been struggling since opening the season with five consecutive wins, losing three straight and four of its last six games. However, two of those losses came in a shootout.

To make matters worse, both Marian Gaborik and Pavol Demitra missed the contest with groin injuries, hurting the offense. Gaborik is questionable for tonight, while Demitra is doubtful to play.

Harding, meanwhile, was playing in place of Niklas Backstrom, who is also nursing a groin ailment.

Minnesota will also host St. Louis, Calgary and Edmonton on its current stand.

The Penguins come into this contest on a two-game winning streak and kick off a four-game road trip tonight.

After losing to Toronto on Thursday, Pittsburgh fell to Montreal, 4-3, in a shootout on Saturday. The Canadiens Andrei Markov ended a lengthy shootout with the lone goal of the extra session, beating Dany Sabourin with a backhander through the pads.

Sabourin stopped all 13 shots he faced in relief of Marc-Andre Fleury, who gave up three goals on 15 shots before being lifted in the second period. Pittsburgh's Ryan Whitney forced the extra action with a goal with 1:52 left in the third.

Petr Sykora and Whitney each had a goal and an assist, while Sidney Crosby also tallied for Pittsburgh. With the goal, Crosby extended his points streak to nine games, posting four goals and nine assists in that span.

Pittsburgh will be playing its fourth road contest of the season and is 2-1 as the visitor thus far. The Pens will also visit Colorado, the New York Islanders and New Jersey on this trip.

These two clubs will be meeting for the first time since a 5-0 Wild win in Pittsburgh back on December 8, 2005. Minnesota is 5-1 with a tie all-time versus the Penguins, including 2-0 with a tie at home.

Sportsbook betting odds favor Europe in Ryder Cup

September 19, – Despite holding a decided edge in the all-time series, with 24 wins, 2 ties and 10 losses, Team USA is the underdog again heading into the Ryder Cup in Kidare, Ireland this weekend, according to MySportsbook.com.  The Europeans have captured four of the past five editions, including their largest victory ever, an 18 ½ to 9 ½ thumping in Michigan in 2004. Current Ryder Cup betting odds favor the Europeans to continue their winning ways; they are a 4-5 bet to take the title, compared to 6-5 for the Americans.

Despite being knocked out in the first round of World Match play by Shaun Micheel, Tiger Woods is predicted to lead the US charge and be their highest point scorer for the week, with odds listed at 9-4 that he outpoints all other American players, including Jim Furyk, Phil Mickelson and Chris DiMarco to  name a  few.  Team USA has four relatively unknown players on the roster but all four are 2007 tournament winners and have posted some of season’s best performances, each earning over $1.5 million on the PGA TOUR.  They include Zach Johnson, Vaughan Taylor, JJ Henry and Brett Wetterich.

The experienced European squad includes the likes of Luke Donald, Sergio Garcia, Padraig Harrington, Jose Maria Olazabal and Darren Clarke, who’s emotions will be tested after the passing of his wife to a battle with cancer.  Donald and Garcia are in particularly good form and each is a 5-1 bet to lead the European squad in the points race. Donald has proven he can go head to head with Woods at a major event after a run for the $1.2 million purse at the PGA Championship. Garcia’s Ryder Cup credentials prove he’s ready for battle too.
