Aggies head coach Bob Biggs announced the decision. Denham has made the All- Great West second-team in each of the last two seasons and would have been a senior during the upcoming campaign. He's thrown for 6,435 yards and 46 touchdowns during his career and has eight 300-yard games, including a career- high 434 in the 2008 season finale against the University of San Diego.

"This is one the most difficult decisions I've ever had to make in my life," he said. "Although many may not understand the timing of this decision, I have to be true to myself and to my faith. I want to make it completely clear that my experiences at UC Davis have been some of the most positive of my life. My relationships with my coaches and teammates are irreplaceable.

"Coach Biggs has been a tremendous mentor from the moment I stepped through the door to join the program through this very difficult process in making this decision."

Biggs, whose squad was 6-5 overall and 3-1 in the conference last season, said, "I respect Greg's decision to follow his faith and through thorough contemplation the need to do it at this time. Greg has made tremendous contributions to the program during his four years and I wish him nothing but the greatest success in his future pursuits.

"We are fortunate that we have three outstanding quarterbacks (Austin Heyworth, Sean Maraz and Randy Wright) who will now see this as an opportunity to show their mark as quarterbacks in the UC Davis tradition."
