Boston tries to sweep Dodgers out of Fenway Park

Baseball Betting Lines

06/20/2010 - (Sportsbook Betting Lines) - The Boston Red Sox will shoot for a three-game sweep of the Los Angeles Dodgers tonight, when the two clubs collide in the series finale at Fenway Park.

The red-hot Red Sox have won five in a row, including the first two portions of this set, and improved to 7-1 on a nine-game homestand with Saturday's 5-4 victory on Dustin Pedroia's game-winning single off of LA closer Jonathan Broxton in the bottom of the ninth. Kevin Youkilis and Victor Martinez both homered and scored a pair of runs for the Red Sox, who still sit one game behind both the Yankees and Rays for the AL East lead.

"He threw me some pretty tough pitches and it wasn't fun," Pedroia said of Broxton. "I never faced a guy like that before and he was throwing 100. Honestly, when there was two strikes I was just trying to put the ball in play."

Tim Wakefield started for the Red Sox and did not record a decision after he allowed four runs -- three earned -- and five hits in 6 1/3 innings. Closer Jonathan Papelbon pitched the ninth inning to record the win. Red Sox outfielder J.D. Drew did not play on Saturday with an injured hamstring and is day-to-day.

Clay Buchholz will take the hill for the BoSox tonight and is 6-1 with a 1.84 earned run average in his last seven starts. The sizzling youngster recently beat Arizona on Tuesday in a 6-3 triumph and hurled 5 2/3 innings of three-run ball, allowed seven hits and walked eight batters.

Buchholz, who posted a shutout of Baltimore on June 4, improved to 9-4 in 13 starts this season to go along with a 2.67 ERA. The right-hander is 4-3 in seven home starts in 2010 and will take on the Dodgers for the first time.

Los Angeles has lost three in a row and six of its last eight games. It is still one game back of San Diego for bragging rights in the National League West Division and is coming off yesterday's tough loss.

Manny Ramirez homered and Garret Anderson finished with three hits and an RBI for the Dodgers, who fell to 2-3 on a nine-game road trip. Vicente Padilla made his first start since late April for LA and did not factor in the outcome, as he yielded four runs over 5 1/3 innings. Ronald Belisario was dealt the loss for putting the go-ahead run on base before Broxton took over.

"We didn't do a lot of damage out there today," Dodgers manager Joe Torre said. "If I'm not mistaken we had three guys get all the hits."

Torre was correct since Blake Dewitt was the only other player to reach base with a hit, going 1-for-4 with an RBI. The Dodgers will also visit the Angels for three games in Anaheim.

Hiroki Kuroda will shoot for consecutive winning starts when he takes the mound Sunday for the Dodgers. Kuroda was 0-3 with a 4.30 ERA in four starts before beating Cincinnati the last time out on Tuesday, holding the Reds to three hits over five shutout innings of a 12-0 blowout.

Kuroda, who received a total of nine runs in his previous four outings, struck out eight Reds batters and issued a pair of walks to improve to 6-4 in 13 starts to go along with a 3.10 earned run average. The right-hander, who is 4-2 in six road starts in 2010, has never faced the Red Sox.

Boston took two of three meetings from the Dodgers the last time these teams met back in 2004.

How long Trent Green will remain sidelined is unknown. Coach Herm Edwards said Monday he will miss a second straight start Sunday when the Chiefs host the San Francisco 49ers.

Matt Kenseth And Kevin Harvick Favorites To Take NASCAR Nextel Cup Championship

(September 15)—The NASCAR season has hit the homestretch with the opening event on this year’s Chase for the Cup taking place this weekend at the Sylvania 300 at New Hampshire International Speedway. With 10 races remaining to determine the Cup Series champion, leading online sportsbook MySportsbook.com today announced odds on all 10 Chase qualifying drivers capturing the NASCAR Sprint Cup Championship.

One of the largest sportsbook sites on the Internet, MySportsbook.com currently lists the top two drivers in the point standings as the early favorites to win the Nextel Cup. Entering the Chase for the Cup with a slim five-point lead in the point standings, 2003 NASCAR champ Matt Kenseth has been made a slight favorite to win his second Cup at 7/2 betting odds. 2001 Cup Rookie of the Year Kevin Harvick has betting odds listed at 5/2 and four-time NASCAR champion Jeff Gordon is listed at 6/1 to capture the Nextel Cup this year.

Hoping to follow in the footsteps of his legendary father who won six NASCAR titles, Dale Earnhardt Jr. stands at 8/1 to breakthrough with his first Cup victory. Staying with the family theme, MySportsbook.com lists 2005 Rookie of the Year Kyle Busch at 14/1 to succeed big brother Kurt’s 2004 NASCAR title. While Kasey Kahne was the final driver to qualify for the Chase with a third place finish last week, the oddsmakers give him a fighting chance at 10/1 mainly due to several mile-and-a-half tracks remaining on the schedule. Despite going winless on the NASCAR circuit this season, Jeff Burton enters the Chase at 5/1 to capture the Cup title. Meanwhile, rookie Denny Hamlin is 4/1 to win the championship, while veteran driver Mark Martin enters the Chase for the Cup as a 15/1 long shot to win his first NASCAR title in his 24th and final season.

MySportsbook.com will offer comprehensive Nascar betting lines on every race remaining on the Nextel Cup series including driver match-ups, props and odds to win each race. For a complete list of NASCAR odds, please visit www.MySportsbook.com.
