Washington, DC (Sports Network) - The Washington Nationals scratched Stephen Strasburg before his scheduled start on Tuesday night versus Atlanta. Strasburg stopped his pre-game warm up and was shut down after consultation with coaches and catcher Ivan Rodriguez in the bullpen. Miguel Batista got the start in his place. Strasburg (5-2) was off to an electric start for the Nationals, posting a 2.32 earned run average in 54 1/3 frames. There was no official word on the cause of the late scratch.

Milwaukee, WI (Sports Network) - The Washington Nationals placed rookie pitcher Luis Atilano on the 15-day disabled list Friday. Atilano was recently touched for five runs in four innings in a July 20 start against the Reds and was scheduled to face the Brewers on Sunday, but an MRI revealed bone chips in his sore right elbow. The 25-year-old had reconstructive elbow surgery in 2006. In 16 games this season, Atilano went 6-7 with a 5.15 earned run average and 1.49 walks/hits per inning pitched.
